Serial numbers can be assigned to Rental Inventory on the Asset Tag Detail and to Serialized Sales Inventory in the Serial Number window.
This warning is triggered when a duplicate serial number is identified across sales or rental products, to help prevent a new equipment or sales record from being created when one already exists, or when a Transfer Sales to Rental or a Transfer Rental to Sale should be executed to move the product instead of creating a new product.

This is an alert to the operator but it does not prevent the serial number from being assigned.

The information displayed about the products with the same Serial number includes:

PRODUCT#

The rental or sales product number is displayed.

TAG#

The Asset Tag number of the rental product is displayed.
This field does not apply to Sales parts.

SERIAL#

The duplicate serial number is displayed.

R/S

The Rental or Sales product type is displayed.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The primary product description from Rental Inventory or Sales Inventory is displayed.

DATE RECEIVED

The date this item was received per the Asset Tag for rental products or the Serial Number for sales parts, is displayed.

Expanded Product Information

CLASS

The rental or sales Product Class number and description are displayed.

GROUP

The Group number and description are displayed.

MAKE

The Make is displayed as defined in Sales Inventory Re-Order Information or Rental Make/Model and Re-Order Information.

MODEL

The Model is displayed as defined in Sales Inventory Re-Order Information or Rental Make/Model and Re-Order Information.

LOCATION

The Asset Tag owning division for rental products or the Serial Number location for sales parts, is displayed.
